Welcome-I am Tim Smith, President of ElementaryPE.com. I have been a physical education teacher, volleyball coach and lacrosse coach in the East Syracuse-Minoa Public School System, located in Central New York, since 1991, but my physical education and fitness experiences go back much further. I have also been an adjunct faculty member in Adelphi University's Department of Human Performance Sciences, Director of Adelphi University's Adult Fitness Program, an exercise physiologist in private practice and a general partner in a physical therapy and sports medicine practice in East Hampton, NY. I am also an author with six books and over four dozen magazine articles to my credit. You can learn more about my professional experiences by clicking on the various menu options provided. At ElementaryPE.com our philosophy on Physical Education
is as follows-By targeting "fitness development" through
the physical education curriculum, preferably on a daily basis, we can
impact on our students in a more positive light than the more "traditional"
programs have done in the past by focusing on "sport". This
is easily accomplished through the use of health-related fitness
modules, fitness-related game modules, and fitness assessments
that allow students to self-assess their own fitness levels for lifelong
learning. Such an approach should also include activities to meet not
only physical education objectives, but also the objectives students
encounter throughout their total school and life endeavors, such as
interdisciplinary and character education concepts that build skills
promoting and leading to enhanced self-responsibility.
